Country Artist Phil Gregory releases his highly anticipated and nostalgic EP – ‘Botley Drive’.
British-born, South African-based country singer-songwriter Phil Gregory releases his long-awaited EP – ‘Botley Drive’.
The EP is a nostalgic journey down memory lane, drawing inspiration from Phil’s childhood home in Botley Drive, Leigh Park, near Portsmouth, UK
The latest radio single from the EP is the track ‘Key To Your Heart’ about a man whose pure love and devotion to his girlfriend is not reciprocated as passionately.
The title of the EP came about 10 years ago when Phil re-entered the music scene and wrote the song ‘Botley Drive’ as a gesture for his brother’s 50th birthday. Phil and his brother grew up in a council house in Portsmouth and the song is homage to their carefree days as kids. The EP also includes the unreleased track Council House Boys.
Phil reflects on the origins of the EP, stating, “Botley Drive was the first song I wrote with my nephew Billy, and it was for my brother’s 50th Birthday. He has recently turned 60, so it felt about time for me to record it. It’s a track full of memories and reflection of an entirely different era, and although very personal, anyone born in the 50s/60s in the UK will recognize the content.”
Having consistently delivered musical gems since his 2020 full-length album ‘Good Intentions,’ which featured the chart-topping single ‘Names,’ Phil Gregory has become a fixture on the South African airwaves. His recent singles, ‘Sheets of Love’, and the adult contemporary country track ‘Heaven Right Now,’ have received widespread radio acclaim, solidifying his presence in the country’s music landscape. The EP also features the recent hit single ‘If I Can’t Have You,’ and the brand new radio single ‘Key To Your Heart’
Collaborating with his nephew Billy Gregory, a key member of the UK band Crystal Tides, Phil has forged an intimate and powerful songwriting partnership. This dynamic duo has produced a string of exceptional songs, steadily building Phil’s catalogue.
Drawing from the musical richness of the 1950s, Phil Gregory’s formative years were infused with a blend of country, rock and roll, and pop influences. This unique blend has shaped his distinctive British style of country music.
‘Botley Drive’ is the latest chapter in Phil Gregory’s musical journey, building on the success of his previous EP ’22 Not Out’ and his debut album ‘Good Intentions.’ With a foot in both South Africa and the United Kingdom, Phil is currently crafting new material for future projects, continuing to evolve and fulfill his country music dreams.
