GIULIO BELTRAMO RELEASES PRE RELEASE SINGLE ‘THE KNIFE’ IN ANTICIPATION OF HIS EP THE WHOLE HALF STORY

London based, South African alternative singer songwriter, Giulio Beltramo, restores the want to love and moment to forgive in his latest single “The Knife”. , the pre-release of upcoming ep, THE WHOLE HALF STORY
From the outset Giulio Beltramo has been influenced strongly by the alternative music genre, in its allowance of expressive lyrics and more explorative melodic and harmonic composition, coupled with his classical music background and fascination in the arts, Giulio presents a multifaceted body of authentically unique music. The Story Behind The Knife
As an artist, I have always been so inspired by the works of the surrealists, in their way to conjure up images that signify so much in the weirdest and most wonderful of ways, the likes of Dali, Magritte, Tanguy and so many more.
For me this surrealist approach was the starting point for this piece. In essence the song (like a few of my others…pattern?) is about a heartbreak or romantic betrayal, and this is an experience that can be felt, explored, expressed and sung in so many different ways. I wanted to then write a piece that was extremely vivid in its imagery, to do like the surrealist paintings, juxtapose distant realities to activate the unconscious mind through the imagery, over a feeling that many have shared.
I didn’t want it to be a piece of music that was aware of its sadness, again this is a frequent theme I address in my work, because I do feel we learn a lot about ourselves when we experience the full array of emotion with others. So instead of taking a more conventional approach to heartbreak and betrayal, there is rather a childlike jovialness to the way the “da’ da’s” brush off the heartbreak and sadness.
The song’s placement on the EP is also significant, the track sits exactly in the middle of 5. This is because this is a piece of music that is as much a realization than heartbreak. The fact is, people can really be horrible and treat others really badly, however there comes a point where as an individual we have to decide if we want to fuel that transaction of hurt with agency.
