VETERAN RAPPER ‘POWER OF THOUGHT’ RELEASES HARD HITTING POST SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS SINGLE AND VIDEO – RAT RACISM
Introducing Power Of Thought
Musician, Activist, Wordsmith
Power Of Thought is an emcee/producer/loop-artist, occasional front man of Greedy Greg and founder of Articulate Artists. A veteran of the South African Hip Hop scene, but unlike most pioneers of the culture, his fresh and eclectic sound has come to transcend the stereotypical aspects of Hip Hop. He pays homage to his roots by fusing guitar, turntablism, multi-syllabic wordplay and human-beat box to create an authentic, 100% live, Boom Bap experience. His brand new single and music video came about after being asked to pen some lyrics for a BBC segment on the SA elections 2019.
“BBC asked me, along with some other local Hip Hop artists, to each write a 2 minute acapella about the elections, which they then filmed and edited into a short segment. Since BBC only required a small portion of the material I wrote for the segment, I decided to turn the lyrics into a song. Once I had completed the beat, melodies and song structure, I just knew that my old friend Miz Ricks would be a perfect fit for the chorus with her smooth, soulful voice. I also did not hesitate to get the some serious musos involved. I had Michael Plaxton-Harrison add an acoustic guitar solo and Gregory Widmer added some ambient electric guitar for a nice eclectic dynamic” says Power Of Thought.
